Tagged Under : 65 Years, Years
Childhood sweethearts Mary Lyness and John Akings, both 81, have finally married after meeting at the tender age of seven, and then not having seen each other since being 15 years old.
Mary received an email on her new birthday-present laptop from her first love John, and the couple rekindled their love from then on.
Both their parents used to tell them as children that they would end up together, and they finally did, tying the knot at Keighley parish church in West Yorkshire with 200 of their family and friends present.
Mary, now Mrs Akings, said: ‘I’m just so happy – it’s turned out to be a beautiful day, everyone is here to celebrate with us – it’s just lovely. We’re so happy to finally be married after all this time.’
‘I was scared to meet him at first because I now have so many wrinkles, but my daughter said that he will have wrinkles too. I’m so glad I met him because he’s still good looking, he always was,’ gushed Mary.
Much to the delight of the happy couple, their family and friends had pulled together to treat them to a surprise eight day honeymoon around Scotland. Mr and Mrs Akings also have a second honeymoon booked next April for a Mediterranean cruise.
