Deloitte: Physicians slow to embrace Internet tools, social media

Many physicians may be falling behind in their quest to meet a government standard that is part of federal health care reform, according to an issue brief from the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions.

The brief questions whether physicians will be able to meet federal standards for “meaningful use” of electronic health records by 2013.

While nearly two-thirds of physicians are using some form of electronic records, only about one-quarter say they are on target to meet government expectations.

In addition, the Deloitte study found physicians have been slow to use Internet tools such as online scheduling or social media.

Treatment plans for diabetes patients questioned

A recent study issued by CVS Caremark finds physicians fail to consistently follow the recommendations of the American Diabetes Association (ADA). In 35 percent of cases reviewed, doctors did not adhere to the association’s consensus treatment guidelines.

In addition to potentially impacting the quality of care, CVS Caremark says ignoring the guidelines can also result in increased health care costs for insurers and patients.

Does the Queen have to pay for car insurance like rest of us women? I don’t know – does she know even? Does she have someone who sorts all these things out for her?

I can’t exactly imagine her sitting down at her computer and going through the various car insurance comparison websites – she is, after all, no ordinary woman driver.
